YOUR LOOK IS SOFT, SUBTLE AND COOL

You have a wonderful, understated elegance. As your colouring does not tolerate a lot of contrast your best colour combinations are those that complement each other and have minimal contrast. Your colour palette contains beautifully toned down colours that would make others look washed out, but they subtly and magically bring you to life.

With your secondary palette as Cool, clothes and makeup that have a Cool undertone will enhance your colouring.

Adding your tertiary palette of Light, means your overall look is elevated with colours towards the lighter end of the scale. These make wonderful additions to your wardrobe.

Personal style will also always influence how you wear your clothes and the colour combinations you prefer.

Colour Guidelines | Click on image/title for more info

Work it ...
  • You look best in colours of medium depth
  • A beautiful look for you this is through monochromatic colour combinations. You can pair slightly different shades of the same colour.
    • Greens for example, lighter green Jade with a darker green, Teal.
  • You can combine neighbouring colours and, as long as they have the same depth, they will look perfect on you.
    • Lavender with Charcoal Blue.
  • Another option is to mix a neutral with an accent of similar depth.
    • A medium Charcoal with a similarly medium Soft Fuchsia.
  • Combining neutral colours (marked with (n) on your swatch) is a flattering way of dressing for your colouring.  It often washes out other palettes, but on you it’s pure elegance.
  • If you like the strong, brighter colours you still have plenty of combinations with these soft colours.
  • Black is not in your palette, if essential, wear sparingly, preferably below the waist and in a sheer light fabric.
  • Your black alternative is Chocolate | Pewter | Charcoal | Light Navy |Rose Brown | Damson
  • Mid to later in life if your hair turns to grey or white your colouring could change you to a COOL as your dominant palette.
  • Softer textures can often work better for you as they absorb the light making them softer.
  • Great patterns for you are gentle and delicate, like watercolour and floral textures, delicate floral drawings, and brush strokes. Natural, delicate elements such as feathers, birds, and flowers. The elements of the pattern should be small and loosely arranged.

Don't do it ...
  • High, stark contrast
  • Extremely vibrant, bright colours
  • Colours with a warm undertone
  • Pairing highly contrasting colours, especially those that sit opposite each other on the colour wheel, such as Blue and Orange. These combinations will overpower your delicate appearance.
  • Pure White and Black
  • Patterns | avoid ordered arrangements, big elements and stiff geometric patterns.
Jewellery

Jewellery is best if it is matt or hammered, brushed or satin. Not shiny, avoid bling!

  • Silver | Pewter | Matt | White Pearls
  • Natural coloured gemstones from your colour palette | Rose| smoky quartz | Amethyst | Blue Lace Agate | Moonstone
Hair

Softs naturally have a wide range of hair colours from dark blonde, light brown to brown, with highlights or lowlights. You will have ash tones rather than golden tones in your hair. Keep to the cool platinum or ash shades of high and lowlights and avoid the red or coppery tints.

Glasses

Always choose a frame that is a colour, or metal from your palette. Softer, muted colours, or shades of the same colour are flattering. Metals that are matt or brushed will also look better.

Makeup

Soft & Cool makeup is at its best when it’s understated, natural and subtle. With a blended, cool and medium depth colouring, you can achieve a harmonious look by repeating these natural characteristics with your makeup. A ‘Nude makeup’ in its original sense is what you wear best. Keep your makeup matt and simple and it will frame your face beautifully.

  • Neutral eyeshadow colours look lovely, with a wide variety of creams, browns and greys to choose from.
  • Accent options like the soft pinks, of Opal, or plum hues, like Lavender Bliss, Damson, Heather or Delph. Blues and greens are great colourful options too.
  • When selecting eyeshadows, opt for a matt or slightly shimmery finish. A little shimmer is nice, but too much can easily overwhelm your gentle appearance.
  • Avoid black which can be harsh on your colouring, and take care with accent colours, overly bright ones these will overwhelm you.
  • Blended colours will give you an elegant and sophisticated look
  • A Granite, Teal or Marine Blue eyeliner really brings out the colours in your eyes. You want one that doesn’t make an obvious line and is not much darker than your eye shadow.
  • Black-Brown or a soft Navy mascara will look lovely.
  • A blush that is soft and cool with no shimmer such as Candy or Marsala
  • Bronzer in a pinky-gold is a great product for you, it brings out a healthy glow in your complexion.
  • Use lipstick similar to your natural lip colour for a very subtle daytime look, rose-coloured lipsticks like Dusty Rose or Soft Mauve
  • For a more dramatic look, still keep your makeup gentle and understated, but the darker berry and purple shades, or even Red Carpet can create captivating lips. Smoky eyes also work for you, although in a gentler composition in browns or greys. Opt for a matt or sheer finish. Gloss and sparkly finishes can look too heavy on you.
